Class Description

Photographing dancers is about more than just freezing a jump. It’s about timing, body language, and trust. In this hands-on workshop, led by Heather Larkin you’ll experience a live, tethered photo session with a professional dancer while learning the technical and creative skills that make a dance image truly amazing.

We’ll break down commonly used dance terms and poses, analyze both successful and not-so-successful photo examples, and have open, honest conversations about what makes an image work, especially when photographing teen dancers.

Then, put your knowledge into practice: you’ll get the chance to photograph live dance models in several in studio setups This extended shoot time lets you experiment with lighting, angles, and movement with feedback from people who know what the move should look like… 

  • Learn how to capture dance images with proper timing, body language, and technical precision

  • Gain hands-on experience photographing professional dancers with guided feedback

  • Understand key dance terms, poses, and what makes a dance photo succeed (or fail)

Heather Larkin

Heather is a photographer and educator, teaching classes on photography all over the USA. She is a SIGMA America lens ambassador. Heather has been photographing professionally since 2003, and is internationally known for creating colorful, authentic images for clients around the world.

Her photos have been featured on The Today Show, Sigma USA, Professional Photographer Magazine, Online Athens, Southern Distinction Magazine, and more.
