We wanted to share an important update about our upcoming Spring Seminar.
Due to unforeseen circumstances, we’ve had a change in our instructor. While changes are never planned, we are absolutely thrilled to announce that Javon Longieliere will be leading this year’s seminar.

Spring Seminar 2026

Photographing Dance with Intention: Timing, Light, and Expression

March 7, 2026 | 9:30AM - 4PM

Instructor: Javon Longieliere

Class Description

Photographing dancers is about more than freezing a jump, it’s about timing, body language, trust, and intentional use of light. In this hands-on workshop, photographers will learn how to create powerful, expressive dance images that balance technical precision with artistic vision.

The day begins with classroom instruction covering the fundamentals of dance photography, including anticipating peak action, working with different dance styles, lighting dancers effectively, and building a complete workflow from booking through the shoot and into sales.

In the afternoon, participants will put those concepts into practice by photographing live dance models in multiple studio lighting setups. This extended shooting time allows photographers to experiment with angles, light placement, and movement while receiving guidance on directing dancers and understanding what strong technique and form should look like in a finished image.

This program is designed for photographers who want to create dance imagery that is not only visually compelling, but also marketable, repeatable, and grounded in real-world studio workflows.

  • How to anticipate peak movement and capture dancers at the perfect moment

  • Lighting techniques specifically designed for motion and form

  • How to direct dancers confidently for stronger expression

  • How different dance styles impact posing and timing

  • A complete workflow from booking through shooting and into sales

  • How to create images that are marketable, repeatable, and studio-ready
